003: Buffy & the Shot Felt ‘Round the World

#003. BUFFY & THE SHOT FELT ‘ROUND THE WORLD

Airdate: May 2, 2020

Wiccans Unite! The relationship of Tara Maclay and Willow Rosenberg gave us representation we were sorely lacking in primetime television. During the 7 Seasons of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, the writing always gave us hope for a brighter and accepting future. All of that was dashed with one bullet, one window shattering, one phrase “Your shirt.” Was this the beginning of the “bury your gays” trope or just a beloved character being taken too soon? Kimberly and Sheila (who has never seen the series) discuss it all.

Trivia Question:

Fan conventions are a way to meet the stars of shows and fellow fans. What decade did cosplay start? Bonus points if you know what was the first recorded cosplay costume, who they were and what they wore.

Airdate: May 2, 2020.

Xenites around the world know the power her yell wielded & the effect the show had on us all. In this episode, Kimberly and Sheila discuss Xena: Warrior Princess and what the show meant to them. The character was only supposed to last three episodes on Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. However, once Xena graced the small screen, it was clear she was meant greater things. The spinoff eclipsed Hercules to become a cult favorite that continues to garner fans to this very day. In a time when representation was controlled by corporations, politicians and fear – Xena pushed boundaries and gave us something to hold on to.
