FF 006: An Interview With Holly Winebarger

#006. AN INTERVIEW WITH HOLLY WINEBARGER

Airdate: June 3, 2020

Our first ever interview is with Holly Winebarger, a woman we admire for her strength, tenacity and her drive to help create safe environments for the Queer Community. She was one of the founders of ClexaCon, the mind behind QFX Events and part of the team behind QLikeU. She never seems to stop fighting for representation we all deserve. That is why we felt compelled to make her our first interview and release it during Pride Month 2020.

Please note: There were some technical difficulties with the audio on this interview, but we felt the information within was too important and needed to be shared.

Twitter Trivia Question:

This individual has been working hard to bring queer representation to the masses. The first convention she helped create was named after a beloved couple on The 100. Who is she?

A. Holly Winebarger

FF 003: Buffy & the Shot Felt ‘Round the World

#003. BUFFY & THE SHOT FELT ‘ROUND THE WORLD

Airdate: May 2, 2020

Wiccans Unite! The relationship of Tara Maclay and Willow Rosenberg gave us representation we were sorely lacking in primetime television. During the 7 Seasons of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, the writing always gave us hope for a brighter and accepting future. All of that was dashed with one bullet, one window shattering, one phrase “Your shirt.” Was this the beginning of the “bury your gays” trope or just a beloved character being taken too soon? Kimberly and Sheila (who has never seen the series) discuss it all.

**Spoiler Warning**

Trivia Question:

Fan conventions are a way to meet the stars of shows and fellow fans. What decade did cosplay start? Bonus points if you know what was the first recorded cosplay costume, who they were and what they wore.

Tune in next episode for the answer and what happened when Kimberly attempted to ask Sheila out at a convention.

FF 002: Xena: A Cultural Icon for LGBTQ+

#002. XENA: A CULTURAL ICON FOR LGBTQ+

Airdate: May 2, 2020.

Xenites around the world know the power her yell wielded & the effect the show had on us all. In this episode, Kimberly and Sheila discuss Xena: Warrior Princess and what the show meant to them. The character was only supposed to last three episodes on Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. However, once Xena graced the small screen, it was clear she was meant greater things. The spinoff eclipsed Hercules to become a cult favorite that continues to garner fans to this very day. In a time when representation was controlled by corporations, politicians and fear – Xena pushed boundaries and gave us something to hold on to.
